Why Resurface Your Bath tub?

Your bathtub may be worn out, hard to clean, pitted and the enamel eaten away from soaps over time, your bathtub may be one of those 70’s coloured yellow, blue or green and a sanity white is desired. Refinishing your bathtub can get you that ease of cleaning and color change done in a day, you can use the bathtub the next day, it’s that easy. Refinishing your bathtub only takes about 4 hours to complete with caulking included. A new drain can be installed at this time as seen in picture.

So why not replace the bathtub?

Taking out a bathtub is a major renovation project involving plumbers, drywallers, tile setters or yourself with a lot of time spent. Consider that to get the bathtub out, a wall has to be taken out to the studs, indeed all the tiles need to come down, what about the damage to the floor, a new floor also may be in the plans, and of course the cost of all the material. That is why General contractors call us to refinish the bathtub instead of replacing it.

How much does it cost?

Refinishing a Bathtub usually cost $400, Bathtub and Tile costs $800, sinks are around $100 (labour, material and taxes included)  and countertops need to be quoted on. You can always send a digital picture of your project and I will send a quote as well. We can quote on Countertops as well as Cabinet doors can be done with our same high gloss refinishing product.

Will you caulk my tub or tile?

As a courtesy to our customers, we do caulking free of charge! However, because this is a courtesy service done in efforts of providing the most complete job possible and is free to our customers, we require all subsequent caulking touchups, etc to be done by our customers. Also, all caulking will stain and wear through the months and years as well, therefore we recommend that our customers subsequently replace the caulk as desired.

Do I need to clean my tub and/or tile cleaned before I have my surfaces refinished?

Although we appreciate any preliminary cleaning, we will still have to re-clean with our special cleaners in order to properly prepare for the application of our coating.

Should I remove my overflow valve or any other fixtures in my bathtub/surround?

We will "mask" (cover/protect) areas including the overflow valve, faucet and drain cap, protecting it from any finish. Materials used to "mask" can be removed after the refinishing is complete leaving masked areas undisturbed during the process. Some overflow’s we will remove but it is up to the customer to put back on the next day... The overflow has one or two screws and is simple to do so. Let us know if putting the overflow back on would be a problem- You will need a screwdriver.

How long will the refinishing process take?

Generally speaking, tub refinishes may take 2-4 hours. Tub and tile surround (tiles around tub area only) will take 4-6 hours. This does not include any time to remove any old paint from a previous refinish if present.

How many years can i expect to get out of the life of my refinishing tub and/or tile with proper care?

We give a 5 year Warranty on the product against lifting, peeling blistering, matters of adhesion. Often we see the refinishing last up to 10 years. A diamond coat is now availble, a hardened clear coat much like a clear coat on a car.  This coating is among the hardest in the industry and serves to protect the colour coat from scraches and wear.  If you are thinking about staying in the same home for more than 3 years, its a good idea to get the diamond coating for the extra $75.00

Will my tub or tile looked like it was painted?

Absolutely not. Our finish is applied using an HVLP sprayer and our products looks very smooth and shiny as in the automotive industry. Our professional products look very similar to automotive finishes after it has cured. Many customers can not tell the difference between our finish and a brand new tub!

Can I use a bath-mat?

No, you can not use a bath-mat on any reglazed surfaces. This will damage your tub. We do offer our slip-resistant finish on the bottom on your tub that we can offer as a very good and popular substitute.

Will you fix my chips and cracks in my tub or tile?

We will absolutely put our best effort towards patching or sanding down any visible chips or cracks. Hairline Cracks in the grout (tile walls) is more difficult to see and fix. Turning a tile surround from a dark color to white will highlight these hairline cracks as well. Because our product is spray on, in most cases it will not bridge the cracks and may not fill it. We can supply the paint to the customer to go back in and touch up these areas with a fine hobby paint brush after our work has a chance to dry. This works well. Let us know.

Can I be present in my home and not be disturbed by fumes?

Absolutely. Our product is made for the refinishing industry in Residential and commercial applications. Most people find that the smell is minimal outside of the bathroom area. This is so because we deploy heavy duty blower systems that ventilate fumes from the homes of customers and often keep any smells from escaping the work area.

Is white the only color available?

No. We do carry the Bone colour as well. White seems to be the choice of color as toilets and sinks now come standard in White and even Bone colour is often a special order.

How long after my tub and/or tile surround is refinished do I have to wait before using it?

Please allow 24 hours before using the tub or tile areas reglazed before using it.

What should I do to prepare for my refinishing job?

There is not much that we ask for our customers to do. Our job is very convenient and is virtually effortless for our customers. You can however, remove loose objects from the bathroom (or work area), such as tooth brushes, bottles, paintings, shower curtains, soap and towels, so that they will not be exposed during the job.

What are your recommended cleaning agents?

Dawn dishwashing liquid, Orange or citrus cleaner and Simple Green are three of the most popular cleaning agents that we recommend. All cleaning agents should be the bleach free versions. Never use abrasive cleaners such as Ajax or Comet on any refinished surfaces.

Can I use a scrubbing pad to clean my tub? We do not recommend that you use a scrubbing pad. If cleaned regularly and with a recommended cleaner, there should be no need use an abrasive pad of any sort.

Is there an extra charge for removing old paint from a previously refinished tub?

Yes, there is a charge. Call us for a quote. It takes an extra hour or even two and is not a pretty job with chemical paint stripper and razor blade knife.

How do I know if my surfaces to be refinished have been refinished previously?

Porcelain, fiberglass and cast iron surfaces do not usually peel after wear. They will often only dull, stain, rust and/or become rough, but will not peel. If the tub has peeled than more than likely it has been refinished before.

What can I expect of a refinished bathtub?

We like to say that our refinished bathtub is 80 to  90 % Like a New Bath Tub.  That is to say that their may be small imperfections.  Dust in the air, from around the grout line where the tub and tile  meet can be expected.  These dust nibs wear off in time to a smooth surface.   If you want the very best in refinishing, we offer a call back service where we fine sand the surface taking out the dust nibs and other imperfections and apply a protective wax on the bath tub.  This service is $89.00 including tax.
